Abstract
This 2022 case report by Guerrero-Pinzón et al. documented a tailored 11-week nutritional intervention for a high-level athlete preparing for performance at moderate altitude (2,000–3,400m). The intervention improved body composition (increased fat-free mass, decreased fat mass), enhanced muscle strength, and optimized carbohydrate oxidation and sleep quality.
Standard endurance nutritional guidelines are effective when adapted for altitude-specific needs. This case study provides a roadmap for managing the unique metabolic shifts experienced by athletes training and competing in low-oxygen environments.
