Comparison of two incremental protocols for evaluation of hip extension:

Campos-Jara et al. (2017)

Abstract

The 2017 study by Campos-Jara et al. compared two isokinetic hip extension protocols: one with resistance at the ankle and one at the knee. The proximal (knee) grip was found to be superior as it accurately captures hip extensor strength without the mechanical interference of the knee joint.

The findings suggest that the choice of lever arm significantly impacts strength measurement. Practitioners evaluating hip performance should use a proximal grip to ensure they are capturing the maximum output of the targeted hip musculature.
