Muscle Quality Index as a Predictor of Hip Osteoarthritis:

Machado-Payer et al. (2019)

Abstract

The study by Machado-Payer et al. (2020) investigated if the Muscle Quality Index (MQI) can predict the presence of hip osteoarthritis (OA). Results identified MQI as a significant protective factor, establishing a cut-off point of 144.20 as a threshold for distinguishing healthy individuals from those with the pathology.

The MQI is a simple, low-cost tool for the clinical diagnosis and functional monitoring of hip OA. This measure, which combines power from the sit-to-stand test with body mass, offers an accessible early warning sign for disease progression.
