Reliability and concurrent validity of a functional electromechanical dynamometer device for the assessment of movement velocity:

Rodriguez-Perea et al. (2021)

Abstract

The 2021 study by Rodríguez-Perea et al. evaluates the accuracy of a Functional Electromechanical Dynamometer (FEMD) for measuring movement velocity. Comparing the FEMD to linear velocity transducers (LVT), the researchers found a perfect correlation (r > 0.99), though the FEMD systematically reported slightly higher mean velocity values than the gold-standard LVT.

The FEMD offers consistent and valid measurements for linear velocity, supporting its use in professional training environments. While there is a slight systematic bias compared to LVTs, the high reliability across multiple speeds (0.40–1.20 m/s) makes it a dependable device for performance tracking.
