Abstract
The 2019 study by Rodriguez-Perea et al., published in PeerJ, evaluated the reliability of using a functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD) to measure trunk flexor strength. Results across various protocols showed high to very high relative reliability (ICC: 0.69–0.86), validating FEMD as a stable and portable alternative to traditional isokinetic dynamometers.
This study provides coaches and clinicians with a validated tool for trunk strength monitoring. With CV values generally under 10%, the FEMD protocols offer a robust framework for assessing core performance and identifying potential imbalances in athletes.
