Test–Retest Reliability of 3 Specific Strength Tests in Professional Handball Players

Abstract

This 2023 study by Morenas-Aguilar et al., published in the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation, evaluated the reliability of sport-specific strength assessments in 14 professional male handball players using FEMD technology. The study tested three specific movements: unilateral pullover, standing lift, and step forward. Results showed high to excellent relative reliability (ICC 0.83–0.97) and low coefficients of variation (3.90–11.57%), indicating consistent results for monitoring strength in elite athletes.

These FEMD-based tests offer a practical way for coaches to integrate sport-specific strength assessments directly into regular training programs. By focusing on movements like the unilateral pullover (mimicking throwing) and the step forward (mimicking lunging), teams can obtain real-time, reliable data on their players' functional capacity.
