Abstract
The study by Jerez-Mayorga et al. (2021) evaluates the test-retest reliability of using a functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD) to measure strength and velocity during the five-repetition sit-to-stand (5-STS) test. Results showed high to very high reliability (ICC 0.95–1.00) across different incremental loads (5, 10, and 15 kg), indicating that FEMD is a precise instrument for assessing lower-body functional performance.
The 5-STS test measured with FEMD provides a robust benchmark for lower-body muscle power. With ICC values reaching 1.00 for certain metrics, clinicians can confidently use this setup to monitor functional improvements in young healthy populations.
