Effects of a 12-week resistance and aerobic exercise program on muscular strength and quality of life in breast cancer survivors:

Soriano-Maldonado et al. (2019)

Abstract

The study by Soriano-Maldonado et al. (2019), part of the EFICAN trial, investigated the impact of adding supervised resistance training to daily walking goals in breast cancer survivors. While the combined program significantly increased full-body muscular strength, no additional benefits were seen in quality of life or fatigue metrics compared to the walking-only group within the 12-week timeframe.

The study highlights the effectiveness of supervised lifting for rebuilding muscle mass in survivors. While it didn't immediately move the needle on psychological metrics compared to an active control group, the physical gains are a critical part of long-term recovery.
