Abstract
The 2023 study by Lara et al. investigated how different postures during resistance training affect intraocular pressure (IOP). Comparing supine (lying down) and seated positions during the bench press, the researchers found that seated positions are significantly safer for maintaining stable eye pressure, whereas lying flat causes a much higher spike in pressure.
For individuals at risk for glaucoma or those needing to maintain stable eye pressure, prioritizing seated variations of resistance exercises is recommended. This research provides a critical guideline for safer strength training practices in clinical populations.
